Manmohan Singh, candidato del Congreso, acumula honores: completó una legislatura de equilibrista (por la debilidad de su partido), revalida mandato y su posición reforzada le permitirá abordar las reformas que crea necesarias -su famosa “inclusividad”- con menos palos en las ruedas que antes.

RESUMEN. Período de reflexión para el nacionalismo cultural hindú del BJP. El partido pierde unos 20 escaños y no logra comer terreno al Congreso en circunstancias a priori favorables. El BJP debe decidir cuál de sus almas (la religiosa, la reformista, la nacionalista, la brahmánica) pilota realmente la nave.

RESUMEN. En el bando comunista, duro castigo: caen en frentes que parecían intocables (en Bengala, su peor resultado en 32 años) y se explican tan mal que parecen opuestos al progreso. Y gran decepción para la “dalit” Mayawati: su carroza regional de 2007 se ha convertido en calabaza al toque de las elecciones.

RESUMEN. Emergen algunos barones regionales, como Naveen Patnaik o Nitish Kumar. Pero el mensaje más importante es que la India ha dicho sí a los esquemas de desarrollo del Congreso, que de la mano de Rahul Gandhi ha conseguido presentarse como el partido más parecido a las aspiraciones de este país.
